[MY LIFE] Ultra Krill Oil 1000mg
Krill oil is an extract prepared from a species of Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba. Krill oil is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, mainly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Omega-3 fatty acids are essential nutrients that are important in preventing and managing heart disease. There are also claims that fish oils can improve cognitive functions, such as Alzheimer's disease. It promotes cardiovascular health and reduces inflammation and may prevent arthritis. While both contain some EPA and DHA as free fatty acids, krill oil contains particularly rich amounts of choline-containing phospholipids and a phosphatidylcholine concentration. A phospholipid is a lipid that contains a phosphate group and is a major component of cell membranes. It consists of a hydrophilic (water-loving) head and hydrophobic (water-fearing) tail (see figure below). The phospholipid is essentially a triglyceride in which a fatty acid has been replaced by a phosphate group of some sort. Krill oil also contains appreciable content of astaxanthin which is responsible for its red color. Astaxanthin is a reddish pigment that belongs to a group of chemicals called carotenoids. It can be taken by mouth to treat Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, stroke, high cholesterol, liver diseases, age-related macular degeneration (age-related vision loss), and preventing cancer.
